An evolutionary piece of work that inflects the anarchic disarrangement and polyphonic pluralities of their previous work with a deeply introspective form of composition and performance, ‘Inner Winter’ segues through an elemental, affecting suite of drone music, hymns, tender piano song, and a beautiful finale that recalls the devotional power of Gaelic psalm singing.

Comprising members of caroline and Shovel Dance Collective, Gentle Stranger lose none of their verve and essence in this fluent aesthetic transition, from upheaval and disarray to delicacy and refuge. Through heavy tone clusters and vivid field recordings to stirring duets and solo acoustic serenades, ‘Inner Winter’ displays the graceful modulation and refinement of the project’s sound.
