about
‘"oan' is about trying to work out where yourself and the people around you sit on various spectrums. The spectrums discussed in the song are mentally ill/healthy , addicted/just messing about , helpful/obstructive , good/bad . it is natural that these answers are dependent on perspective and that there is rarely one solid answer , but we live in a system that morally collapses if we cant point to certain people as the ‘bad’ one , the ‘ill’ one , or the ‘addicted’ one . this is the logic that distributes life chances , and the ‘good’ people get a vaguely comfortable life , and the ‘bad’ ones are subject to incarceration and institutionalised precarity. This song is about how , when you look into your own life , and the lives of people close to you , you can see that these moral lines don't really work at all , we don’t live in a ‘fair’ world where these labels can be applied meaningfully." - piglet
lyrics
kept it to my own I’ve not been picking up the phone
running up and down the road since you said that you’d be home
Its not quite lying and its all quite new
but i’ve been really really worrying about you
I rate some of those guys but I don’t hang there all the time
knives in plastic bags, you know that movie we both like ?
where the main character ruins so many lives
but by the end you’d be cold-hearted not to empathise
The rain is sheeting sideways, we decide to get smashed
Regardless of the weather what do we do but that?
There are nuances to wanting , there are levels to this stuff
but there are also sides and corners and edges to tumble off
Is this a phase that we are gonna look back on
or is this something we’re too tangled in to ever leave ?
Mesmerised by just the thought of sleeping sober like its no big deal
Eoin , I don’t know what to do
